Mary's Perpetual Virginity: A Sign of God's Presence

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that Mary's perpetual virginity is a sign of her total consecration to God. It states, "The deepening of faith in the virginal motherhood led the Church to confess Mary's real and perpetual virginity even in the act of giving birth to the Son of God" (CCC 499).

The Protoevangelium of James, a second-century apocryphal Gospel, describes Mary as a consecrated virgin who dedicated her life to God from a young age.
