Fasting and prayer can bring breakthroughs in our lives. When the disciples were unable to cast out a demon, Jesus advised them that some demons can only be driven out through prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21).
Fasting and prayer can also be a way to express repentance and seek forgiveness from God. King David, after his sin with Bathsheba, fasted and prayed for God's mercy and restoration (Psalm 51).

Finally, fasting and prayer can align our will with God's and enable us to experience His perfect plan for our lives. Jesus, in the Garden of Gethsemane, fasted and prayed, surrendering His own desires and submitting to the Father's will, even unto death (Matthew 26:36-46).
